Church History

The Immanuel Greater Highway Church of Christ in Raleigh is a relatively new church. The Lord gave Elder James Patterson a vision of building a refuge for His people. He had no members, but being led by the Lord, he purchased 1½ acres of land in December 1999 and through God’s leading and help, he worked tirelessly.

After enduring many obstacles, the church was built in the later part of 2001. Doing a lot of the work himself, Elder Patterson was able, by the grace of God, to complete the church building in February 2003. With limited funds, he searched the Internet to find discounted church furnishing for the church building. The pews came all the way from Texas. A gentleman and his wife brought them about 900 miles from a town in Texas on a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck. The pews had to be re-assembled, cleaned and mounted in the church, which was all done by Elder Patterson. The opening ceremony service was held on Saturday, March 3, 2003 conducted by our Executive Chairman, Bishop R. F. Davis.

The first persons to join the church were Sister Linda Wright, Elder and Sister Frederick, and Minister Janet Harris. The Lord continues to bless the church, new members are being added and the work of the Lord is continuing. To God be the glory!
